Description

This app is intended for users who want to learn English Language and need extra help to improve their language skills. To begin with, the user needs to register and then log in to the app. Then, the user is required to take a quiz and depending on his score, he will be provided with a recommended course. There are two courses- Basic and Advanced. Clicking on the respective course, the user will get access to links that will provide requisite course content/guidelines to further his learning.

Features:

Analyze Yourself: This will contain a quiz that users can take.

If the user is on the Basic Course and does well in this quiz, he gets access to the Advanced Course.

If the user is on the Advanced Course, he can monitor his progress.
Dictionary: This contains all possible words one can think of. The user can search any word and it’s meaning will be provided. This will enable the user to get words that can then be used to frame meaningful sentences, thereby increasing his proficiency in verbal and written vocabulary.
More About English: This contains links to list of the most widely used English Grammar books for user reference.
Story Books: This includes links to best selling English Novels across categories like Adventure, Horror, Science Fiction, Biographies, etc. This will help improve users’ spoken and written English besides providing interesting topics to read, research, etc.

Project Setup

To setup our project on your local system, these are the steps to be followed-

Fork our repository using the fork button in the header of the repository - https://github.com/khushibarjatia/English-Learning-App
To be able to work on our project, user needs to clone the above repository by either clicking on the clone option and copying the link(using GitHub desktop) or using command line-

Usage

Below is the list of steps involved to access and use the application:

The user has to initially register and then log in to the app.
Then the user will be prompted to take a quiz that will help ascertain the calibre of the user. Based on the score, the user will be assigned either the Basic or Advanced Course.
If the user is alloted the Basic Course, then he will be able to access basic courses only and not the advanced ones. However, both Basic and Advanced courses will be accessible to users who are alloted the Advanced Course.
In addition to the above, there are other features as well that have been listed in the Description Section. These features can be accessed by clicking on the top left corner of the menu bar.

Applications

This app has several use cases that are listed below:

Students: Can learn English from scratch to reach basic/intermediate/expert level competence.
Working professionals with non-English background: Can learn most often used words in a professional setup/ at the workplace to become more effective in the competitive world. This provides a very good medium to learn the language without having to undergo instructor led courses that are time consuming.
Test takers for competitive exams: Users can benefit by being able to prepare for competitve exams, in addition to honing language skills.

E-Learning is the most sought after medium to enhance knowledge in any field. This application provides the perfect solution to address English proficiency gap amongst a wide population that includes 1.3 Billion Indians. Most of the apps that exist today are complex and difficult to use. This app has a good user interface, is easy to use and addresses the basic requirements in a very simple to understand format. This sleek app will provide the much needed comfort to wide section of students/professionals to at least get attracted to English as a must-know language and learn the same in a fun-filled manner.

Future Scope

There are several features that will be added in the next phase to further enhance the applicability of the app such as:

‘Word of the Day’ and ‘Phrase of the Day’ can be displayed as a ticker to help users learn a new word and phrase each day in a fun manner. This will also help users to crack competitive exams like TOEFL, SAT, etc.
Some riddles, crosswords and puzzles can be included in the app.
Chatbot functionality can be added to provide an interface for users to get prompt responses to queries in real time mode.
Translation module can be added to help translate words/sentences from other languages to English. This will help adoption of this app across variety of non-English speaking audience/users.
The user’s progress can be monitored by subjecting him to take regular tests to gauge his expertise on English during the course of his learning. Reporting module can then be included to display his current and previous tests that will provide a very clear indicator of gaps to overcome in subsequent sessions. Comparative charts (bar/pie) can be displayed to showcase user’s performance vis-a-vis benchmark results targeted.
Closed user group can be created to provide a platform to exchange thoughts/ discuss challenges/ idea sharing to make the entire learning experience very interactive.
